If you were not able to attend or watch the July 28th Special School Board Meeting, there were two very important decisions made regarding school:
1. The first day of school will be August 24, 2020. This could change depending upon COVID issues.
2. Require universal masks be worn by all students and staff in areas where social distancing is not possible on school property. The School Board will continue to evaluate as we move through the school year.
I appreciate and support the decisions made by the School Board last night keeping the safety and well-being of our staff and students in their decision making a priority. Our first week of school like any other start of school is always busy and exciting for our students, as well as staff. The masking requirement will take some adjusting the first week and we anticipate there will need to be reminders, as well as help with masks. The school district will provide two washable masks for students. We are also asking parents to provide masks for their children. If a family has difficulty obtaining a mask they are welcome to contact their child’s principal, as will make sure one is provided.
We will abide by the masking requirement. If there are students who blatantly refuse to wear a mask the principal will call parents to discuss the matter. These students will need to use our E-learning/Take Home Packets. There is more information in the plan pertaining to E-learning at home and how to register.
I have included a link below which takes you to our “Yankton School District Return to School Plan 2020”. This is still in draft form and we will continue our work on it with the anticipation of having the School Board approve it at the August School Board Meeting. This will be a fluid plan, as we all know the COVID situation and CDC Guidelines change.
Please note through-out the plan there will be links with additional resources we have used, as well as information for you as parents. The buildings administrators will be back in their respective buildings beginning next week on August 3 if you have any questions related to the plan.

Note: If for some reason this link does not work please contact Kelley at the YSD Administration Office 665-3998.
The safety and well-being of our staff and students is very important. I want to thank each of you and know that we will get through all of this together.
Thank you for your patience waiting for our plan.
