Message from Superintendent's Office

Dear Parents and Staff:

The Yankton School District will be closed March 16-20.  We realize the potential for student cases of the Coronavirus COVID-19 is a possibility.  I have made the decision to close school based upon discussions with our local health care professionals.   I would ask that parents take the closure of school a serious decision based upon the Coronavirus COVID-19.  Please keep your children at home and avoid gatherings.

Beginning today Friday March 13th we are temporarily prohibiting the following for the next 30 days:

  • Rentals of all school facilities
  • Field Trips
  • Staff Travel (Meetings, Conferences, Workshops, etc.)
  • Non-sanctioned SDHSAA Events both in-district and out of district
  • School Volunteers, Visitors, Guests, and Presenters

When school resumes, we are asking Parents and Guardians to please limit their access within the school building to pick-up/drop-off, meetings and emergencies.

The need for these changes and school closure were not taken lightly. Rather, much thought and consideration have been given to these decisions based upon our responsibility to our students, staff, and community.

The Yankton School District is a member of the local Coronavirus COVID-19 Task Force and will continue to meet daily.  We value the expertise of our local health care professionals and our local Task Force.

Please contact your child’s health care provider or the South Dakota Department of Health regarding any concerns related to your child’s health.  We have provided a link below to additional pertinent information regarding the Coronavirus COVID-19.

I appreciate the collaboration as parents, school, community, and health care providers to ensure the best for our students, staff, and community.  Please join me in doing everything we can to alleviate fear in our children.

A sincere thank you for your support during this time!

Dr. Wayne Kindle, Superintendent

Yankton School District
