YSD SCHOOL MEAL CHARGE POLICY AND PROCEDURES
The Yankton School District participates in the National School Lunch Program sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) which permits the school system to offer free and reduced priced meals to students who qualify. Due to reporting requirements, the child nutrition program cannot permit excessive and recurring charges of meals. Customers may, however, pay for meals in advance.
Families who wish to apply for free or reduced meals must complete an application each year. An adult family member of any Yankton School District student may submit an application at any time. Applications may also be submitted online are at: http://www.myschoolapps.comor by following the link on the Child Nutrition Services page of the Yankton School District website. Applications are also available at Yankton School District Business Office or at any YSD School. Applicants are responsible for any meals purchased until a qualifying application is completed and approved.
Students and staff in the Yankton School District may pre-pay for school meals utilizing our point-of-sale lunch account system. Meals can be pre-paid daily, weekly, monthly or even annually. Money can be deposited directly at the school or for your convenience online at www.myschoolbucks.com where you can make deposits using a credit/debit card, monitor accounts and even set up low balance reminders. Parents may also download the free mobile phone app at www.myschoolbucks.com for additional convenience.
Low balance notification may be done by monitoring student account balances with My School Bucks by parents. Child Nutrition staff will send green deposit envelopes home with students who have a negative balance. Green deposit envelopes can be returned to the schools with a check or cash. Please make sure the front of the envelope is filled out with full name of student(s), school and ID#. Child Nutrition staff will also send low balance notifications by email, phone calls and letters. Middle School and High School students will be notified of account balances by the cashiers as they go through the lunch lines.
Yankton School District students will not be denied a reimbursable meal. Students with a negative account will not be able to purchase any ala carte items, including extra milk or milk to go with a sack lunch. Parents are expected to provide money for each student’s meal account on a regular and consistent basis. If a student has a negative account balance and parents are struggling to make payments they should contact
Sandi Kramer at the Child Nutrition Office at 605-665-8379 to make arrangements.
