Today, Barb and Matt Hanson delivered 304 coats to the Yankton School District for distribution to elementary school students in need of a warm winter coat. Dr. Wayne Kindle expressed his gratitude for all of the hard work that goes into this project, knowing how essential it is for kids to have proper winter weather gear in this area of the country. Special thanks to Hanson-Briggs Specialty Advertising and the principals and staff of Beadle, Webster, Lincoln, and Stewart Elementary schools, who will get these coats to those who need them. This project was possible in part due to funding from the Spotlight, Beacon, and Gratitude Grants, part of the Elks National Foundation Community Investment Program. Thank you, Yankton Elks 994, for your continued partnership in keeping our students warm in the winter!

All Yankton Public School students, including JrK-12th grade will be dismissed at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 4, for the Yankton High School Pioneer Days Homecoming Parade. There is no afternoon Preschool at Webster School or Early Childhood Preschool at Stewart School that day. Bus students who ride Yankton School District buses will load at 1:50 at their respective buildings. They will make the exchange at YMS and will leave YMS at approximately 2:15. Parents of elementary students may pick up their bus students at school at 2:00 p.m. if they are not riding the bus that day and have notified the school in advance. Parents of JrK students at Webster should pick them up at school at 1:45 p.m., as they will be dismissed earlier due to traffic. Parents of in-town students should pick them up at school at 2:00 p.m. All elementary students should return the parade notice to their teacher, so plans are known for the early dismissal. The parade will begin at 2:30 p.m. and starts at West Riverside Drive and Douglas, North to 2nd Street, West to Walnut Street on Second Street, North on Walnut Street to 3rd Street, then East on 3rd Street, and ends at Pearl Street. If inclement weather occurs, the parade will be cancelled but school will still be dismissed at 2:00 pm.
