In honor of Veterans Day, South Dakota public schools proudly recognize and support the brave men and women who have served in our armed forces. Their sacrifices and dedication have upheld the values and freedoms we cherish, and we are deeply grateful for their commitment to protecting our nation.
Our schools are committed to instilling respect and appreciation for veterans among our students, helping them understand the importance of service and dedication. We invite our community to join us in expressing heartfelt gratitude and respect for our veterans.
Thank you to all our veterans for your service and sacrifice.

Today, Barb and Matt Hanson delivered 304 coats to the Yankton School District for distribution to elementary school students in need of a warm winter coat. Dr. Wayne Kindle expressed his gratitude for all of the hard work that goes into this project, knowing how essential it is for kids to have proper winter weather gear in this area of the country. Special thanks to Hanson-Briggs Specialty Advertising and the principals and staff of Beadle, Webster, Lincoln, and Stewart Elementary schools, who will get these coats to those who need them. This project was possible in part due to funding from the Spotlight, Beacon, and Gratitude Grants, part of the Elks National Foundation Community Investment Program. Thank you, Yankton Elks 994, for your continued partnership in keeping our students warm in the winter!
