Thank you to Mr. Gavin Zimmerman for coming to Mrs. Christensen's class at Stewart this morning to show us his collection of maps from the 1860's. They showed the early versions of the Dakota Territory. It was a timely visit since we are going to the Mead Museum on Monday. What a great way to kick off learning more about South Dakota. Gavin's son, Thomas, was pretty proud of his dad sharing with us! Thank you!

Sunshine, smiles, and a well-deserved break!
Mrs. Johnson’s 4th Grade Stewart Stars took a break from state testing today to enjoy Lunch on the Lawn together. We’re so proud of their hard work, positive attitudes, and bright smiles!

Who brightens every day at Stewart? Mrs. Osborne! 🌟 Thank you for being a helping hand to every student — your kindness changes lives. PTA surprised her with this gorgeous bulletin board full of positive messages from our school family. 💛✨

Mrs. Steiner's 1st grade class at Stewart has had the BEST time learning about the chicken life cycle! We learned the parts of an egg, how to candle a chicken egg, and experienced the process of hatching chickens in an incubator. Taking care of the chicken that hatched was one of the best parts!

Mrs. Heiter's 4th graders took a break from testing to do a fun experiment on mind reading. We learned that it really isn't possible to actually read minds.

Mrs. C's class from Stewart, along with the whole school, went to watch the AMAZING "Annie" today at the High School. The production and singing were fantastic, and we really enjoyed it! Thank you to the performers and instructors for inviting us. Our favorite was Annie and Sandy! Shows performed this weekend for the public...check the school webpage if interested.

Fourth graders at Stewart are State Testing this week. Sometimes we need some time to rest our brain and have a little fun. Mrs. C's class played games during brain break today.

Stewart STAR got to enjoy a fun lunch picnic with her mom in the front lawn of Stewart on this beautiful day!

Yesterday our speech therapy students traded the coffee cart for an apple cart — and it was sticky, delicious, and adorable!
Slicing, delivering, and topping apples with sprinkles, syrups, chocolate chips, and whipped cream for our teachers. 🍎✨ The best part? These messy, happy smiles at the end!
Huge shout-out to our amazing crew! 💚

The 10 Stewart fourth graders who stuck with Book Club for the last 6 weeks and read the book James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. They had to read six chapters a week, and then we met on Tuesdays during lunch to discuss our reading and chat about the book. Today we finished the last three chapters together, had some snacks, and watched the movie together. Congratulations to these 10 kiddos!

Stewart second graders aren't easily fooled, but this April Fools Day a few of them got tricked! If you saw us behind HyVee today we were just looking for the Loof Lirpa bird!

3rd graders at Stewart Elementary, in Mrs. Law's class completed the Egg Tower Challenge, for morning meeting Teamwork Tuesday.

🐕📖 Huge thanks to Pam Fedders & Augie for bringing canine cuddles and reading support to our Stewart second graders throughout the school year!
Reading to a calm, friendly dog gives nervous kids a judgment-free place to practice, builds confidence, and makes reading feel fun again — many kids even go home wanting to read to their own pets. 🥰✨

Curious classroom moment: Why hexagons? 🐝 Stewart second grade students constructed different shapes and tested why bees build hexagonal cells — they discovered hexagons use space efficiently and are amazingly strong.

🎭 Spotlight on creativity! Stewart second graders had a wonderful time learning theatre techniques from Andy Henrickson, Director of Theatre at Mount Marty, and his talented students. They practiced acting, movement, and teamwork — and had lots of fun doing it! 😊

Mrs. Moser’s Stewart class spent time exploring roles of workers, money management, needs vs. wants, entrepreneurship, and responsible community membership — complete with a hands-on pizza-making and selling simulation! 🍕✨ A big thank-you to Mr. Nicholas Moser for generously volunteering his time to teach these lifelong lessons.

Stewart Stars enjoyed extra special guest readers this week to celebrate Read Across America! Each grade gathered to hear wonderful books and stories shared by their former principals Mrs. Ryken & Mr. Klimisch, former Stewart 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Koller, YCL librarian/Stewart mom Mrs. Pietila, and our superintendent Dr. Kindle. We appreciate their enthusiasm to share book love with our readers this week! Reading together is the BEST!

Big smiles and story time magic! 📚✨ Stewart second graders were so grateful when Mikael from Yankton Public Library read three amazing stories to celebrate Read Across America. Moments like these light up young imaginations—thank you, Mikael!

Stewart STARS and families had a great time at our winter bingo tonight. Thank you to everyone who came and had a great night at Stewart.

Who else loves seeing hard work rewarded? 🎉 Stewart second graders in Mrs. Moser’s classroom spent their ClassDojo points on a fun end-of-February celebration — complete smiles, games, and memories made!
