The Yankton Bucks wrestling team went 3-0 on Friday night, earning victories over Sioux Falls Lincoln, Sioux Falls Washington, and Lennox, and finished the season with a winning record, ending with an overall record of 12-8. This marks the first year since 2011 that the Yankton Bucks wrestling team secured and finished with a winning record. Across the three duals, Yankton showcased depth throughout the lineup, scoring points through a mix of forfeits, pins, technical falls, and hard-fought decisions.
The Bucks opened the night with a tightly contested dual against Sioux Falls Lincoln that was ultimately decided by tiebreaker criteria. Early points from forfeits and a quick pin by Damian Janish (113) kept Yankton in the match, while late-dual falls from Zane Portillo (157), Shayce Platt (165), and CorBin Sayler (175) proved crucial. The dual ended tied on the scoreboard, but Yankton secured the team victory based on tiebreaker criteria.
Next, Yankton faced Sioux Falls Washington and took control from the opening weight, gaining early momentum with multiple forfeits and continuing to build the lead with bonus-point performances. Brooks DeLozier (120) and Shayce Platt (165) recorded technical falls, while pins from Nathan Bohlmann (150), Zane Portillo (157), CorBin Sayler (175), and Peyton Eustace (190) added valuable team points. Caden Janssen (144) also delivered a key victory with a hard-fought decision, helping Yankton maintain control and secure the win.
The Bucks closed the night against Lennox in a competitive, back-and-forth dual. Yankton opened strong at the lower weights with first-period falls from Colton Archer (106) and Damian Janish (113), followed by a technical fall from DeLozier at 120. Despite Lennox finding success in the middle weights, Yankton stayed steady with bonus-point wins from Nathan Bohlmann (150) and several key victories by forfeit, allowing the Bucks to maintain their advantage and finish the night undefeated.
Overall, the Bucks displayed resilience, balance, and depth across all three duals, highlighted by consistent bonus-point scoring and strong performances throughout the lineup, capping a historic season for Yankton wrestling. The Bucks finished the season winning their last 7 duals and are building a lot of momentum into February.
